4 Steps To Take This Fall To Keep Your Video Surveillance System Working Smoothly

This fall is a good time to make sure that your video surveillance system is working properly. Here are a few things that you should do on a yearly basis to your surveillance system.

Clean The Lenses

Over time, the lenses on your video surveillance system will get dust on them. If they are outside, they may also get water spots on them. Your video surveillance system will not work effectively and capture clear images if the lenses are dirty on the camera.

Go around and clean all the lenses on all of your surveillance system cameras. The best way to clean the lenses is to take some compressed air and use that to blow away any dust and particles that have settled on the lenses. Then use a microfiber brush to wipe away any remaining dust and to remove any water stains.

After you clean the lenses, check the video feed to make sure that the images are clear and easy to see.

Check The Housing

The second thing you need to do is check the housing around your security camera and make sure that no dust, dirt, or water is getting into your camera. Open the security housing and make sure that it is clean inside. If it is not secure, you are going to want to resolve that issue so dust and dirt can't damage the interior and so that potential criminals can't tamper with the cameras as easily.

Secure The Connections

You also need to make sure that all the connections to your camera are secure. Make sure that they are pushed into place and are tight. Check and make sure that they are not starting to corrode. If any of the connections are not secure, reattach them. If any of the connection are starting to corrode, you are going to want to replace them so that the corrosion does not spread to your camera and damage it. After reattaching or replacing anything, wipe down all the connections with a rag to remove any dust or dirt build-up.

Cut Back Bushes

Finally, you need to check the plant growth around your security cameras if they are outside. Your security cameras do not do a lot of good if they are blocked by plants and bushes. Check the video feed on all of your security feeds and figure out which camera's views are being obscured and cut back the limbs on any of the plants and bushes. Also keep an eye out for any plants or bushes that may become an issue in the future.
